LDA Invests in a New Generation of Cable-Laying Vessels to Support the Global Growth of Digital Infrastructure

Suresnes, November 5th, 2026 – LD Armateurs (LDA) reaches a new milestone in the development of its subsea cable activities with the acquisition of three Platform Supply Vessels (PSVs), which will be converted into cable-laying vessels dedicated to the installation and repair of subsea telecommunications cables.

“Building on 25 years of experience in the installation and repair of subsea telecommunications cables on behalf of our clients, LDA has decided to invest in its own fleet of next-generation cable vessels. Our ambition is to support the sustained growth of the telecommunications sector, help address critical infrastructure sovereignty challenges, and proactively meet the modernization needs of a global fleet facing both aging assets and capacity constraints” said Samira Draoua, Chief Executive Officer of LD Armateurs.

Three next-generation cable vessels to enter service in the first quarter of 2028

The three PSVs currently under construction are scheduled for delivery during the second quarter of 2027. They will then be transferred to a conversion yard, where they will be equipped with the specialized systems required for cable operations, before entering service in early 2028.

With a cable carrying capacity of 2,800 tonnes, each vessel will be equipped to perform the full range of cable operations, from subsea cable installation and repair to complex projects requiring a high degree of agility and operational responsiveness.

These next-generation vessels will also feature hybrid-electric propulsion systems, enhancing energy efficiency while reducing CO₂ emissions.

Launch of the LDA Academy

To support the growth of its Cable business, the entry into service of its three new methanol and wind-powered RoRo vessels, and the development of tomorrow’s skills, LDA is launching the LDA Academy. The Academy will allow LDA to accelerate the recruitment, training, and professional development of its future crews.

As manager of the world’s largest fleet of cable-laying vessels serving the telecommunications industry, LDA is recognized for its expertise in vessel design, construction, conversion and operations, as well as submarine cable installation and repair. This expertise is built on crews with unique know-how, combining maritime skills and cable operations expertise. The LDA Academy will aim to transmit and expand this expertise through a structured learning framework, while facilitating career mobility across the Group’s different business activities.

“This investment, both technological and human, marks an important step in the Group’s growth strategy by strengthening its position across the entire subsea telecommunications cable systems value chain,” concluded Samira Draoua.
