LD Armateurs marks a new milestone with the keel laying of the Wind of Ocean
LD Armateurs is proud to announce that the Keel Laying ceremony for the Wind of Ocean, the first of two Service Operation Vessels (SOVs) ordered by Vattenfall, took place on Thursday 26th March at ZPMC (Shanghai Zhenhua Heavy Industries Company Limited).
A strategic project for offshore wind development
The two vessels, named Wind of Ocean and Wind of Energy, will play a key role in supporting offshore wind farms, ensuring the safe and efficient transfer of technicians and maintenance operations at sea. The Wind of Ocean will enter service in mid-2027 on the DanTysk and Sandbank offshore wind farms, each with a 288 MW capacity. The Wind of Energy will commence operations before the end of 2027, servicing the Nordlicht 1 and 2 wind farms, with a capacity of 980 MW and 630 MW, respectively.
Innovative SOVs designed for performance and sustainability
Designed in close collaboration with SALT, a leading naval architecture company, these SOVs aim to reduce fuel consumption and emissions, both in transit and during operations. They will be equipped with advanced technologies, including an advanced gangway system and a 3D motion-compensated crane. A high-level dynamic positioning system combined with four azimuth thrusters will ensure exceptional maneuverability in challenging conditions such as the North Sea. Particular attention has also been paid to onboard safety, workflow efficiency, and crew comfort, with high-standard living spaces.
