LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS group (LDA) announces today an order for 8 bulk carriers in China, placed at TIANJIN XINGANG SHIPBUILDING HEAVY INDUSTRY CO. LTD shipyard. This order involves 4 Capesize and 4 Handymax vessels. Deliveries are scheduled in 2013 and 2014. This investment represents about 330 million U.S. dollars.

Both types of ships have been optimized to minimize CO2 emissions, compared to existing vessels of equivalent tonnage. The new Capesize design will save approximately 9,300 tons of CO2 per year (and per ship) and the new Handymax design will save 5,000 tons. Additionally the new Handymax design is optimized at 10.50m draft to better serve all ports of Southeast Asia. All vessels will be registered under EU flag.
In line with its counter-cyclical strategy and after having sold a substantial part of its fleet of bulk carriers in the highest markets in 2007 and 2008, LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS group has decided to rebuild its fleet. LDA is confident that today's depressed markets will experience a significant improvement as from 2013.
