Two tugs heading to AF447 crash site

Paris, June 8, 2009 – LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS (LDA) today announced that two of their Dutch subsidiary FAIRMOUNT MARINE’s super tugs, FAIRMOUNT GLACIER and FAIRMOUNT EXPEDITION, will be part of the fleet dedicated to the retrieval of the flight recorders from the Air France AF447 plane that recently crashed in the South Atlantic Ocean.

The vessels are now heading to Natal (Brazil) where they will mobilise the equipment needed for their mission. The vessels will be used to tow sonar and acoustic systems to try detecting the black boxes signal.
FAIRMOUNT EXPEDITION is awaited in Natal on the 10th June and FAIRMOUNT GLACIER on the 12th.

LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS has been working in close cooperation with the BUREAU d'ENQUÊTES et d'ANALYSES (BEA) since Monday 1st June as soon as the accident was announced.

LDA crews and teams have already demonstrated their skills in similar operations with :
-    the recovery of the two flight recorders from the Boeing plane that crashed near Sharm El Sheikh in 2004. They were found by more than 1,000 meters depth.
-    the recovery of the flight recorder from the Air Moorea plane that crashed in 2007. The black box was found by around 650 meters depth.

LOUIS DREYFUS ARMATEURS wish to express their deepest sympathy and sincere condolences to the victims families. With ongoing operations in Brazil and with many French and Brazilian friends and colleagues, we feel very much connected with the many victims of this disaster.
