Montship was founded in 1945 by two Canadians, the Laws brothers, with vessels built in Canada during the Second World War destined for the merchant marine of the Commonwealth, the " parks ". The vessels were employed on two major routes Can-Con (Canada/Continent-North Europe) and Can-Med (Canada-Mediterranean).

LD who was already a partner in Montship took control of the entire fleet in 1956. The last vessel to enter the fleet was the MONTROSE (III), in 1963.

All these vessels’ names were prefixed by " Mont " such as MONT GASPE, MONT CLAIR or MONT SANDRA and were technically managed by Buries Markes.

Montships’ commercial activity as a shipowner ceased with the sale of the MONTCALM (III) in 1971.
