Capoline was started by the Cerni Group based in Genoa and sold to the Vatican to become very soon afterwards the property of one of its commercial banks, the G.E.N.S. (Gestioni Esercizio Navi Sicilia). Working on the same liner service as Montship (Canada/Europe) the companies Montship and G.E.N.S. Naturally became partners in a joint service which became Montship/Capoline.
LD, already the owner of Montship, controls all the G.E.N.S. Fleet as from 1962.
CAPO NOLI, which entered the fleet in 1980 was the last vessel of the Italian branch of the LD group.
